A home & interior blog by Alisa Bovino
Lately I’ve become infatuated with patterns. How to create a visual impact with patterns, which patterns work well together, and which patterns are considered timeless in the world of interior design.
As the fall One Room Challenge approaches in a few weeks (can you believe it?!), I’ve been testing the waters on wallpaper patterns. And by testing waters I don’t mean a small creek. I mean like, the full blown Atlantic ocean. I think the amount of wallpaper samples laying in my office could cover the Taj Mahal (34,596 sq ft. to be exact), which, of course, *definitely* makes it so much easier to choose one!!!
Choosing patterned accent items like pillows and decor are one thing. They’re easy to swap out if you get sick of them. But to make up your mind on something with a pattern that’s more permanent like wallpaper, can become stressful. The traditionalist in me is saying “go for something timeless” like a chinoiserie while the modernist (dare I say millennial) in me is saying “go for trendy and modern” like Kelly Wearstler’s Graffito.
So, since I’ve been knees deep in sourcing classic vs. modern wallpaper, I thought it would be fun to create a roundup of the patterns that I believe to be quintessential in the world of interiors.
Whether used in wallpaper or textiles like pillows, curtains and upholstery, I personally think these patterns are iconic and quite frankly, will never go out of style.
By the way, my favorite non-trade sources for purchasing wallpaper and fabric is Decorator’s Best and Etsy. I guarantee you will find any of these patterns there!
Do you love/use any of these patterns in your own home?
Until next time …
