I originally published this post in 2020 and wanted to update it since I’m currently on the hunt for alllll the built in inspo!
It’s no secret that I’ve been wanting to install built-ins in our home for years, and I am BEYOND excited to finally have the opportunity to do so in our family room.
What I love about built-ins is that you can customize them in so many different ways, especially if you’re starting from scratch. I can’t wait for styling shelves and having some extra storage in our space. And most of all, I’m excited to have a proper fireplace in the center.
Today I’m sharing some drop-dead-gorgeous built-ins that have inspired me over the years.
Via Inspired By Charm – likely the look we’ll be going for in our family room (minus the beadboard and molding above the fireplace)
Via Wolf Interiors
Via (swooning over that wallpapered ceiling and window seat)!
Via my friend, Sarah! I love what she did in her LR.
I’m not sure what material that is, it doesn’t look like caning. But I love the texture!
I am smitten over everything in this photo. The scaloppeds textured bench, the beadbord, the shades.
Have a fab rest of your weekend!

I may have a similar ranch with a 24 ft LR. I do have a fireplace at the far end but since the dining room “L’s” to the left from there it is awkward. I think built-ins on each side of the fireplace will help define where the DR starts.
Besides that advantage, who doesn’t love bookcases on each side of a roaring fire!

I love your inspiration photos–are you going to use Ikea for the basics and then trim it out?

Thank you! That’s a good question! We may do that, or we may completely customize from scratch 🙂
