I recently shared both boy and girl nursery plans as we’re expecting baby #2 in February. And then…
We found out it’s a girl!
As a reminder, these were the boy and girl concepts I shared:
And as another reminder, my current office will be the nursery, so wallpaper, bamboo shade, and light fixture will be staying:
As I started scheming for baby girl, I found myself once again gravitating towards Althea/Hollyhock, mostly because it’s a large scale floral that comes in a bunch of colors and works so well with the wallpaper. I’ve desperately tried time and time again to quit this pattern but alas, it pulls me in. I’m a whore for Hollyhock, sue me
My beloved Althea chair will be used in my new office downstairs
To clarify, I’ve used Althea a few times before (both new and secondhand), but I’ve never used Hollyhock.
Hollyhock is the hand blocked version of Althea and therefore, the price is higher per yard (whereas Althea is printed). Hollyhock is also slightlyyy larger in scale than Althea, for all my fellow pattern nerds.
I ended up choosing Hollyhock Coral. There are a handful of HH colorways but I’m not sure I’ve seen this one used yet. I’m just so drawn to the shades of pinks and greens!
The fabric already arrived to Martha & Ash and they sent me a photo with the tassel trim. I’m so excited!!
Hollyhock is truly my dream fabric. Also, how could I not cover her room in my all time favorite pattern?! She’ll inevitably have her own style someday but for now, this room will be so special for us.
I’m extremely lucky to be receiving a small discount from Lee Jofa/Kravet for this project, otherwise, Hollyhock would be out of reach for me. The drapes will be the one big splurge in here, everything else will be repurposed from other rooms, found secondhand, or purchased on sale.
Anyway, here’s the final concept (and by final I mean, 90%)
Going all out with my favorite color combo, pink and green, and grounding the feminine elements with a few pops of brown. You may notice some consistencies with Angelo’s nursery like the Frontgate dresser, Carver’s Guild song bird mirror, and the scallop wicker ottoman (we don’t use it in his room anymore, so I’ll get the cushion recovered in either Hollyhock or the performance stripe that I’m using for the chair)
I’m really drawn to the idea of a crib canopy and did consider one, but if I’m being honest, I’d rather “invest” in window treatments, as they can be used in other rooms someday.
Luckily there’s no actual work that needs to be done in here, as it’s already painted/wallpapered in Sister Parish Dolly. I feel like I’m quickly running out of time and this pregnancy is moving so fast, so I’m hoping to have the room done and photographed by January (I’m due early February).
my to-do list:
– Source rocking chair & fabric for reupholstery (done – found this perfect Bassett rocker for less than $100) and I’ll be recovering it with this performance stripe
-Source Hollyhock fabric for Martha & Ash to make drapes (done)
-Source new art. Alexis Walter so kindly commissioned art for Angelo’s nursery and it’s so special to me, so I’ll be carrying her work through to this room as well. She is so sweet and by far my favorite artist ever!
– Source a new rug, preferably something soft underfoot, like wool. The current sisal is beautiful, but if there’s one thing I learned after having Angelo, it’s that we’ll be spending a lot of time on the floor (even after the newborn stage), and a sisal is not ideal for a nursery
– Possibly source a new lamp & a new shade for dresser. I’ve been eyeing this BW Lamp and feel like the color would be a nice way to breakup all the green and pink!
– Source new shelving or open storage for books & little toys
I’m so excited to watch this come to life and can’t wait to share more!

Are you taking the mirror and footstool from baby Angelo’s room and reusing It in baby girls room?
aglassofbovino says
yes, sorry if that wasn’t clear – just repurposing from Angelo’s room
