As I sit on our 3-seasons porch that I never got around to painting last fall due to first-trimester nausea and fatigue taking a hold of me, I can’t help but feel like the last 9 months have gone so quickly, yet so slowly at the same time.
Now at 39 weeks and feeling the anticipation that I could go into labor at any moment (although I have a feeling I won’t), today’s unnatural June weather is reminiscent of the mild, windy October day that I found out I was pregnant and it feels surreal. Angelo and I are planning to have a picnic at our local park while we soak up some of our last days together as just the two of us.
While I’m in this blissful stage of calm, I wanted to share some of my recent, completely random “streams of consciousness” with you.
Dunkin’
Since I’ve been WFH for the last 2+ years, I get a little antsy around mid-afternoon and have made a habit to leave the house to grab a coffee or snack. Usually, I get a tea or decaf americano and egg white sous vide from Starbucks but lately, I’ve been ordering a black decaf iced coffee from Dunkin’, then adding vanilla almond milk and silk dairy-free creamer at home and it really satisfies my afternoon sweet tooth. I’ve significantly decreased my caffeine intake since I got pregnant but I still love the taste of coffee!
Nail CONCEALER (Polish)
When I’m in between manicures, I like to use sheer pink polish. A little goes a long way! I’ve been using this one lately and I’m really pleased with how my nails look after two coats. It also dries quickly.
Sunglasses
I realized I haven’t bought new sunglasses since 2016 so I wanted to treat myself to some new sunnies, especially because I’ll be *incredibly* sleep-deprived this summer and will need to hide my tired eyes any time I’m out. I found these Tory Burch glasses and fell in love with the shape/size/color. I feel like it’s hard to find a sunglass shape that’s flattering on a rounder face, but I liked the way these look (you can “try them on” on Sunglass Hut’s website)
Kindle
Angelo got me a Kindle paperwhite for Mother’s day and I’m hooked. I feel like I’m really late to the party but I love it because there’s no glare, and it’s not as bright when I’m reading in bed, as opposed to my phone which feels bright no matter how low the brightness is. I still read physical books, but I absolutely love having an actual Kindle.
DST (DIET STARTS TOMORROW) Podcast
I recently stumbled upon the Diet Starts Tomorrow podcast and I feel like I’ve found my “people.” The host, Aleen, talks a lot about anti-diet culture and intuitive eating which I’ve been trying to practice for years now (highly recommend the book Intuitive Eating if you struggle with eating). Also, she recently had a baby so I’ve listened to a few “how to feel comfortable with yourself after giving birth” episodes (specifically 277), which has been insightful. I just feel like the hosts speak my language when it comes to food – no calorie counting, no dieting, no restricting. It’s a subscription but to me, it’s worth it.
NOTECARDS
I ordered these beautiful Papier notecards after my friend Shannon sent me the sweetest baby gift and included one of her own. I’m a sucker for beautiful stationery!
HILL HOUSE ORDER
I ordered a few of the Hill House dresses from their summer drop and I have to say, I wasn’t super impressed given the price points. I’m wearing the Athena dress (currently sold out) and while I love the lilac stripe, I’m not crazy about the fit. I’m returning it for the Ellie (in Lilac).
Granted, I should not be buying new clothes or judging anything on myself while 9 months pregnant but I want to have something comfortable, flowy, and post-Partum-friendly for summer. I think the Ellie will be more flattering anyway. The fabric just seemed cheaper and more sheer than other HH dresses I own.
I also ordered the Laura and again, probably shouldn’t be judging anything at 9 months pregnant but I was not impressed with that dress either for the same reason – fabric just felt cheaper than my other HH dresses.
___
I’m not quite sure when I’ll be back with regular (or irregular) content, but I obviously am planning to take a few weeks off once the baby is born. I’ll be back soon enough!
