I’m all about quick and easy DIY’s these days, and a few months ago I decided to give our Visual Comfort Hackney floor lamp a quick makeover to add a dark pop of color to our living room. Here’s how I did it.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Hardback lamp shade. ***It’s important to note that this will only work with hardback shades – not linen or fabric shades. Hardback shades are usually laminate/plastic and have a stiff backing. I used the shade that came with my lamp
- High gloss spray paint. I used this paint in the Chestnut finish
- Painters tape
- Metallic paint for interior part of shade
STEP 1:
Clean off shade/make sure there’s no dust, then tape around the interior part of shade that you don’t want to paint.
Spray the shade with a light layer of paint.
STEP 2:
Once paint has dried (I waited 24 hours between coats), spray a second coat.
Repeat if you feel the shade needs a third coat. I did three coats total
STEP 3:
Paint the interior part of the shade with metallic paint.
Let dry for at least 24 hours and you’re done!
I love a bold lacuqered shade, and this was a super quick and easy way to add another pop of color to our living room.
