This blog post was written in summer 2022 and I completely forgot about it (likely because… newborn), so here I am publishing over a year later!
Our front walkway was a very long overdue project that absolutely needed to be renovated this year. It’s been slowly deteriorating since before we bought our house in 2017 and we’ve received multiple quotes over the years, but it was a rather expensive project so we decided to wait.
It was clearly in need of a makeover when we closed in 2017
We finally hired someone to demo and rebuild everything a few weeks before baby Angelo arrived. Talk about waiting until the last minute haha!
Between our roof being replaced in December 2021 (which was $14k) and the walkway, it pains me to think about how that $$$ could’ve been spent on something way more fun like a kitchen, but I logically know that both of these house updates were necessary.
I’m not going to pretend that the exterior of our house excites me as much as the inside, but it was fun selecting the stones for this update. We went with cooler bluestone-like stones for the actual walkway and for the porch, decided to mix cool and warm stones, since part of the house is brick and wanted to bring some of that warmth to the steps. We also decided to round out the corner of the walkway (right before the steps) rather than keep it square.

We’ll be working on planting new plants and flowers in the fall! Angelo ripped everything out so we’ll be able to start fresh.
COST
We received at least four quotes ranging from $10,500 – $19,000 which each included:
- Demo-ing the walkway, stairs, and privacy wall
- Rebuilding everything
- Materials
- Cleanup
We ended up going with the company that charged $10,500 and we’re happy with the final result. It took about 5 full days of work with 3-5 guys working at one time (LOL to think that Angelo and I were considering doing it ourselves at one point)
We feel so much better now that this project is complete and I’m actually looking forward to seasonally decorating our front porch now!
